The Glenn Beck Program, May 25 LIVEBLOG

Yesterday he said that this would be a DOOZY of a show.  (Yesterday's was fairly meaty itself.)  Let's see if it pans out.

WELCOME TO THE GB PROGRAM!

"It;s Healthy Week over at NBC"  designed to inform about health & wellness.  Insinuations that they're doing this to pucker up to michelle obama.

Table full of cereal.  Beck picks up lots of them (lucky charms, irish accent), and then picks up some junk food.  THis is weird.

---

Obama completed a gaffe-filled trip over seas, and no one's talking about it.  So Beck will.  "We might as well have sent Joe Biden on this trip."  I'm not sure what happened that was a big deal.  Will need to look that up.

Obama is alienating our most staunch allies.

More people around the world are waking up. They get it.  They know the differnce between good and evil. You are not alone.  Many aren't even Americans... it's easy for Americans to stay asleep.  We've become complacent with the gift give by our Founding Fathers.  We have sources all around the world, that scares the left.

High up people in syria and iran -- they know that they're setting israel up.

didn't know that obama would just hand over jerusalem.  summer's changing.

gonna talk about news of the day:
- netenyahu.  fabulous, only tarnished by code pink idiot and biden no clapping.  someone said stuff is a "declaratino of war against the palestinians"

that first speech.  netnyh was scheduled to give a speech, and obama jumped in first.  (!!)

lebanese guy clip: anti israel stuff.  "the english brought us these pieces of flith... who should be brought back to where they came from"  thisis the guy sponsoring the humanitarian program

clip of egyptian kids show: arab had israel first

world is heading for disaster.  a disaster we said we'd never let happen again.  does the president know this?  who knows.  he's set the world on a collision course.  and we're supposed to be israel's best friend.

personal story.  beck and a bff robert.  if he had neighbors that were gonna attack him, he'd call up robert and ask to come over to talk in his house.  as he goes over to the house, he finds out robert has been listening to the neighbors.  when it's time for beck to talk to hs family, beck has to talk about the neighbors' stuff, not his own stuff.  then, before beck's done talking, robert starts talking about SOMETHING ELSE.

chalkboard calendar of events.
thurs obama speech: while netnyh on plan,
friday cannot reply for 12 hrs
missed the rest
they speak together
netnyh talks to congress
obama's off on euro trip, ireland, then queen.

this summer will be bad.

we should: DO what the MSM should be doing.  show what's coming.  you can predict it.  why?  because it's a game, a show. to win this, this will all come down to you.  yeah, you sitting there.  will you do nothing, or will you
this is the endgame for the western way of life.  if you take out the keystone of israel, the western world falls.

this will be the narrative.  the story told about us on mexican border (their side), israel is us.

beck showing clip, telling a story about something with a boat.  missed what it is. throughout whatever it was, they chanted "the army of muhammed will return" (7th c. reference), but the media spun those people as peace loving yahooos that israel attacked.

border.  they're going over fences.  violating border.  suicide mission.  they want israel to shoot them.  more will be sent this summer,a nd israel will have no choice but to shoot.  you can't let this happen to your border. what would happen if people came over border shouting "death to america"?  you would have to shoot them.

code pink is behind organizing a floatilla, take/make a group the center of a cause... it's staged.  it's obvious.  nobody is looking for them.  they are arrogant and foolish.  they are not actually humanitarians.  what h refers to people as filth?

new, huge floatilla planned for mid-summer.  it's just another play.  it's happened on multiple key border locations.  they are forcing action, trying to create crisis.   forcing action and crying victim.  and trying to do it as MLK.  trying to make the other lok like the south in the 60s.

comparison to germany, then ghandi, then MLK.  but it doesn't work if it's not true.
shows pic of people standing, linked arms.  this is what is good.

i'll tell you who i think will lead the good side of this fight.  next.

COMMERCIAL.
i'm doing a shoddy job at capturing what he's talking about.
so, yesterday Beck showed us where we are today, and how we got there (past 6ish months), and the predictions that he made that have come true or are still pending.  now he's talking about what's next.
none of what he's saying is surprising to me.  i don't think it comes across as radical or doom/gloom.  it sounds like obvious, common sense.  i'd been thinking about the scheduling for the netenyahu stuff, how at the very least it was totally rude to speak about someone's country the day before that guy arrives--

BACK!

hod do you beat a wellcoordinated, financed global game?  shed light, spread the word.  someone must put out the call.  you must stand with courage, compassion, together, shoulder to shoulder, regardless of faith (or lack of).  have never led a movement before, haven't wanted to.  doesn't like politics.  but this isn't political.  this is about being a shield for others.  this summer may be the only summer that counts in the end.  the "do you remember what happened when/ I was there."  (me: this is 1968.)  he's not on a collision course.  doesn't want to fight, be violent.  the eyes of the world will be watching.  when you have courage, righteousness on your side, and it's real and you are a force for good and you win... when the american people saw that w MLK, the people picked the right side.

if there ever was a time to question with boldness, that time is now.

the MSM ignore the kill-the-jew chants.  how does that not shock the world.

i don't know how many people will stand up, begin to organize.  this summer, millions throughout the world will stand.  organize, go to the website to the people-connector part.  we're all puzzle pieces.  what is your piece?  starting a group?  writing a blog?  adopting a church overseas?  he doesn't know where YOUR puzzle fits, but he's calling on YOU to make a stand.  know the time you live in  if you remove the keystone (israel) we all fall.  israel keystone to the west.

obama is a great communicator.  he has an endless suplly of contacts to people who have been plotting for something like this since the 60s.  but what we have is the truth.  dave/goliath.  you have to collect the stones at the river's edge.  goliath is on his way.  what is your puzzle piece, what is your slingshot?  find it.  and link arms.

COMMERCIAL
i find it interesting that beck has been pushing for community organizing while he rails on many lefty community organizers.  what makes ours different?  truth?  doing it for the right reason?  i sometimes envy christians who can so easily believe in good/evil.  good/bad, sure.  but the "good" part of good/evil?  it's glowing, it's holy.  it's pure.

i want to live a life that leaves a mark on the world.  it doesn't have to be a big mark.  just a little dent in some part of the machine or collective consciousness.  i have no idea how to do that.  it's not that i want fame; i want to leave the country and the world better than when i left it.  not environmentally, nothing like that.  "politically" or "emotionally", i guess.  i dunno.

ALERT: senate is voting right now on paul ryan's budget plan, which obviously will not pass.

Back!

In a nation of 310 million people, you'd think we could find someone to plan a decent trip for president.  Euro trip seems to be planned by Clark Griswold.  (HA!!!)  & our country seems to look like nat'l lampoon's vacation.

shows my favorite movie clip ever -- "hey kids, big ben! parliament!"

shows clip of obama trying an irish accent (poorly)
shows clip of motorcade getting hung up on a road bump
shows pic of signature in brit guest book -- signs 2008
official state function in brit, he had to make a toast.  it was written out for him, what could possibly go wrong?  (comparison to watching bad idol)  reads toast while OUR nat'l moment played.  he raises his glass to the queen, and she does not.  no one else does.  he pauses, puts his glass down.

"Don't touch me Lucky Charms, grrr"

COMMERCIAL
The thing about that toast that got me, was that if the queen (thus the room) had lifted her glass, it was while the music was still playing.  our natl anthem.  so it'd be like giving a toast to the US.  or, rather, Obama giving/leading a toast to himself.  Is that what people are up in arms about?  There's something about this toast that I'm missing.  A piece of the recipe of horror that I haven't picked up on.  I can tell that it's gross, but I don't really understand why.  I think I'm overlooking something.

Gawd, I hate Beck's commercials. At least they're not showing the Passover one anymore.  The Wounded Warriors one has the same feel, but at least there's some uplifting aspects, not to mention that it's a great program.  www.supportwwp.org

DUN DUN DEN DUN

There were other gaffes, too!  Ooh!  Top TEN obama insults (which implies there are more than ten.)  this ran in the brit papers, so i'm gonna look for a link (edit: found it!) after instead of hacking a recap while beck talks super fast.
mentions the special relationship we have with england.  yes.  yes, we do.  that makes me wonder why there's talk about israel being our strongest ally.  is that because israel loves US most?

we treat our enemies better than our friends

COMMERCIAL!
"Everywhere I turn, people are talking about gold prices..."  Well, yes, when it comes to Glen Beck commercials.  (Stupid Media Matters.)

BACK!
video of people trashing a Dunkin Donuts.  says this kind of violence for violence sake is growing.  this is an america that i don't want to live in.  i don't think that's america.

then there's another america. it's an america where they run into chaos and help, not one where they cause chaos.  gonna talk about that tomorrow.

joplin, mo: he wanted to go down there, but didn't want to distract.  so he put up money and sent down a team to help instead.  terrible situation, robbed of everything by the tornado but rich in american spirit. video clip of people talking about how much help has come.  mentions a one-armed guy loading a truck.  says he'd rather live in that america where people pitch in and help each other, not one where they choose to create the chaos.

more on that tomorrow.

COMMERCIAL

I've been watching Beck somewhat regularly since January.  Political stuff aside, predictions aside, antics aside, he has some very simple messages.  to an extent the messages are basic non-theist christian messages.  "Do good."  But these messages have layers, and they tie into Beck's unique strain of political yammering.  He's the only talking head I know of that doesn't enjoy politics as sport.  The rest love watching the car wreck.  Beck would be much happier if there were no car wreck at all, even if that put him out of a job

DUN DUN DEN DUN
Monday is a great show.  survivors.  burned in plane crash, pulled through.  role models.
From NY, good night, America!
END
back to that babble -- which was getting off track.  Beck said he'd rather live in "that" America where people people in and help each other than an america that creates chaos.  When he said "that" america, he's not just talking about the creation america (contrasted with the chaos america), he's talking about people who pitch in -- do work, give of themselves, are free to have the choice and then choose to come together and give/help/do good.  But that's not all.  He's also talking about fuckin Joplin, MO.  He's saying that he'd rather live in an America that is recovering from devastation but filled with liberty-lovin' peeps who want to do good.  He'd rather live in that America than sit high in a tower with everything you could imagine at your fingertips while chaos and destruction are celebrated.

THAT is a big statement.  I never realized that Beckensian philosophy ran that deep.  I mean, I guess I did, but with simple messages like "shine a light" or "be the person you were born to be, not the person you've become", it can be easy to focus on the touchy-feely surface and not consider the core.

When my lefty friend asked me how I could believe "the things I believe", especially since I have health conditions for which others, with similar conditions, rely on state aid to get care.  I've thought about that a lot. It's hard.  If I had to depend on someone else to provide for my health care, my views on govt & health care would not leave me in a good place.  I tried to explain to my friend that it's bigger than just me.  If something is best for the country but also screws me over, I want the best-for-the-country thing to happen.  But I think that came across as "screw those other people [who are just like me except rely on state aid for health care]."  Not quite what I was going after.

The first time I voted Libertarian, I was stunned to see that the candidate was, technically, pro-life.  I studied up on his platform and saw that he felt ALL aspects of healthcare should be out of federal hands and dealt with by the states.  So, being against Roe v Wade didn't mean he was anti-abortion.  Sorta.  My endorsement came down to one thing.  The other stuff he stood for was so much more important than right-to-choose.  I would be horrified to live in a country were abortion is illegal, but living in a country where X,Y,Z happens is much more devastating.  So I can look away from my personal causes -- and fight for them on the local level, try to educate people and change their minds -- but when it comes to big programs that form how our states or how or country is run, THAT is so much bigger than me.  It's bigger than you.  It's bigger than one group of people.  What's best for the whole is not always what's best for each member, except that the only thing that's best for an individual can be the most healthy whole.

Mediscare is on the news right now, so I'll use that example.  It's run out of control.  It no longer does what it was intended to do.  In order to keep a program that assists seniors re: healthcare, medicare must be revamped and/or thrown out and replaced by something else.  Yes, some people might have it better off under one vs. the other.  One group might sacrifice more/less during the transition.  But isn't the bigger whole the most important thing?  Who would honestly want to force medicare to continue when doing so causes chaos?  Alternatively, medicare reformation involves people coming together and pitching in.  Maybe one person will have to pitch in their house -- and move in with their daughter and her family.  Maybe another person will have to pitch in their job, since there are govt jobs related to running medicare. Maybe another will have to lose in their spring vacation and donate 10 beds at the nursing home that they run.  Chaos vs. Creation.  That's some strong stuff.

  1. I've rewatched a clip of the toast gaffe. It's horribly awkward and uncomfortable to watch, but I still don't get the meat of the issue. Sometimes when stuff is right in front of you, I don't see it. (Like, it took me months to figure out the "racist" connection for the "birther" stuff. I find it annoying that I don't get it on this one.

  2. ohh... the music was not, ahem, patriotic. well, not how i thought. it sure as hell sounded like "my country tis of thee" to me. that makes more sense now.
